Terms

For shelters, rescues, animal services and websites that work with LostPets.AI.

Effective October 28, 2026

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between your organization and LostPets.AI (“we” or “us”). They apply when you share listings with us, use our website tools, contact us, or use any other LostPets.AI service. If we sign a separate agreement with your organization, that agreement wins where the two differ. People who search for or report a pet on FindLostPets.com use its own Terms of Service. How we handle information is in our Privacy Policy.

2. What LostPets.AI does

LostPets.AI compares lost, found and shelter records to suggest possible matches, shows them to families searching on FindLostPets.com and partner sites, and links back to your own listings and reclaim steps. We do not take custody of animals, decide who owns a pet, or replace your hold, reclaim or adoption procedures. LostPets.AI is not an emergency service.

3. Your listings

  • Share only listings you are allowed to share, and tell us which may be shown publicly and which may only be compared privately with a family’s search.
  • You allow us to store, compare and show your listings to help reunite pets, on FindLostPets.com, on partner sites and to other organizations through our API, within what you told us may be public. When you ask us to stop, we stop showing and comparing your listings, and keep closed records only as long as we need them to explain earlier matches and answer questions about them.
  • Each listing we show names its source and links to it. You can ask us to correct, pause or remove a listing or your whole feed at any time, and we act promptly.
  • We may also show public listings from your website when its terms allow it. Ask and we will stop.
  • We may decline or pause a source, for example when listings are out of date or a feed breaks.

4. A match is a lead, not proof

Matches are suggestions based on details such as species, appearance, place and timing. Confirm identity and ownership through your own procedures, such as a microchip scan or proof of ownership, before releasing an animal. We do not guarantee that a match is found, shown or sent, or when.

5. Website tools

Our website tools, such as lost-pet lists and report buttons for your site, are free. Use the code as we provide it and do not suggest that we endorse your organization. The tools show only public reports. We may change or stop a tool, and you are responsible for the rest of your site.

6. Data access and the people behind reports

If we give your organization access to our data or API, keep any key private to your organization, stay within the limits and attribution we set, and use what you receive only to help reunite pets. You may not resell it, copy it in bulk to another service, or try to identify or contact owners and finders outside the messages we relay. Our data and API never include their email addresses or phone numbers. Additional terms or limits may come with the access.

7. Fees

Working with us and using our website tools is free today. If we offer a paid service, we will agree its terms with you in writing before you are charged. Lost-pet services for families stay free.

8. Ending use and changes to the service

Either of us can stop at any time. We may change, pause or end any part of the service, and may suspend access that breaks these terms or puts people or animals at risk.

9. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy and availability. We do not verify every listing, report or suggested match.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, LostPets.AI and its operators, contributors and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for loss of data, goodwill, use or opportunity, arising from the service. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Your responsibility for claims

To the extent permitted by law, your organization agrees to defend and compensate LostPets.AI and its operators for claims, losses and costs arising from listings or content you share, your misuse of the service, or your breach of these terms or of someone else’s rights.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service changes. We will revise the effective date and tell organizations we work with when a change is significant. To ask a question, contact us or email partners@findlostpets.com. To correct or remove a listing, request a correction or removal.
