Privacy Policy
What LostPets.AI collects from organizations and visitors, and how it handles pet listings.
Effective October 28, 2026
1. Scope
This policy covers LostPets.AI: this website, our work with shelters, rescues, animal services and websites, and our matching. People who search for or report a pet on FindLostPets.com are covered by its Privacy Policy, including how their reports are matched and shared. We don’t sell personal information.
2. Information we collect
- When you contact us: your name, organization, email address, the topic you choose and your message. We send it by email to our team, use it to reply and follow up, and keep a copy in our email records.
- Listings: pet details, photos, dates, places and links, with each listing’s source. They come from organizations we work with, from public listings on their websites and from public posts on other sites. A listing may include a contact the source published, such as a phone number; we don’t show it publicly and give it only to a person matched to that listing. Some listings, such as rescue adoption listings, are never shown publicly; we only compare them privately with a family’s search.
- Website tools: if your website shows our tools, we count how often they load on each website, by day.
- Our team’s accounts: sign-in details for the people who run the service.
This website has no analytics or advertising. Its only cookies keep our team signed in. Our hosting provider may keep technical request records for security and reliability.
3. How we use it
We use this information to suggest possible matches, show families where a pet may be with a link to its source, keep listings current, answer and follow up on inquiries, and keep the service secure.
4. When we share it
- Public listings appear on FindLostPets.com and partner lost-pet sites, and other organizations may look them up through our API to help reunite pets. They get only public details, such as the photo and the city.
- With service providers that host, store and process data for us, such as for databases, email, image analysis and security, under their agreements with us.
- When reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to legal process, investigate abuse, or protect safety and rights.
- As part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization or transfer of the service, with appropriate notice and protections.
5. How long we keep it
We close a listing when its source removes it or it goes out of date, and keep closed listings only as long as we need them to explain earlier matches and answer questions about them. We keep inquiries as long as we need them to work with your organization.
6. Corrections and requests
To correct or remove a listing, request a correction or removal. For any other privacy question or request, contact us or email partners@findlostpets.com.
7. Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will revise the effective date and give additional notice when a change is significant.
